CEREMONY

Ritual Unions Couture SS27 “Ceremony”

On the final day of Berlin Fashion Week, Ritual Unions presented CEREMONY,

the atelier's second live fashion installation as part of RAUM.Berlin. Following

Ritual Unions' AW26 BFW exhibit, CEREMONY used a similar format with live

models displaying pieces during a performed ritual.

Decorations, musical performance, and the exhibit structure paid homage to

traditional religious ceremonies for their role in collective transformation,

although the presentation worshipped an alternative sacred element.

CEREMONY prays to the chronology of intimacy and identity, with each room in

the exhibit representing a different religious phase, including but not limited to

purification, communion, and confession.

In reference to Ritual Unions' history in bridal design, one section of the exhibit

featured models enacting marriage vows. In another room dedicated to loss, the

boning of a white gown was designed to resemble a human skeleton. Event

designer Anna Görike invoked tension between flower arrangements and black

mesh fabric sprawled throughout each room, conveying a simultaneous sense of

growth and decay. Composer Mandy Mozart, also known as The Cat Pope, fused

orchestral and electronic elements to form a transcendent sonic environment.

Through CEREMONY, lead designer Karin Brettmeister reevaluates the

relationship between a brand and the community that defines it. The

presentation is both structurally and aesthetically an ode to the divinity of

interpersonal connection. Ritual Unions extends its sincere thanks to the friends

of the house, who bring it to life.
